Sri Lankan passports are issued by the Department of Immigration and Emigration. The all-countries passport is valid 10 years for adults. Apply online or in person — the cost is the same.
How to apply
- 1Complete the online application (or offline form) and get a photo studio acknowledgement.
- 2Attach your NIC and birth certificate (originals + copies).
- 3Pay the fee via bank voucher (People’s Bank / Bank of Ceylon) or online banking.
- 4Attend biometrics at the Head Office (Suhurupaya, Battaramulla) or a regional office.
- 5Collect in person, or authorise someone with a letter, your NIC copy and their NIC.

Good to know
Urgent (same-day) service is at the Head Office in Battaramulla and the Jaffna office. Once you pay, the application cannot be edited or refunded. Lost passport: a fine of Rs. 20,000 (within a year of issue) or Rs. 15,000 (after) applies on top of the fee. Verified on immigration.gov.lk (updated 23 Jul 2026).
