Vehicle Revenue Licence

The revenue licence must be renewed (usually yearly) to legally use your vehicle. Many provinces allow full online renewal through the eRL system.

How to apply

1. 1Ensure insurance and emission test (and fitness, if required) are valid and uploaded.
2. 2Log in to the provincial eRL / eServices portal with your vehicle number.
3. 3Confirm the fee (vehicle class, fuel, weight) and pay by card.
4. 4A printable temporary licence (valid ~14 days) is emailed instantly.
5. 5The printed licence arrives by registered post in about a week.

Good to know

The portal checks insurance and emission certificates electronically and blocks renewal if either is missing or expired. Renew before expiry to avoid penalties.
